T.G.I.F. ‘Thank Goodness It’s So Fabulous!’

THIS FABULOUS FRIDAY I HAVE FOUND….

Summer’s End.
Once again, school has begun and our new morning routine is in full swing. Although the routine is definitely a welcomed change, I still  find myself nostalgically reflecting upon the moments of another summer passed.
So, as a farewell to summer and welcome to fall, my topic for today’s Fab Friday post is….

ONE FINAL HURRAH…  ENJOYING AN  ECO-FRIENDLY AFTERNOON IN YOUR BACKYARD!

When summer gathers up her robes of glory,
And, like a dream, glides away.
~ Sarah Helen Whitman

“It’s So Fabulous!” GREEN DESIGN BOOK of the Week:

Packed with lovely photos, as well as loads of practical information and resources about green interior decorating, the  author of  Green Interior Design, Lori Dennis,  touches upon all of the critical components of eco-friendly design.  She continues to ask the question....

“Is It Green Enough?”.

To answer that question, she utilizes helpful checklists like the following:

Client checklist (partial):

  • taking a look at their health & whether chronic ailments are attributable to their indoor environment
  • whether reusing furniture and materials is an option and/or desire
  • whether natural light can be leveraged to minimize artificial light needed
  • site considerations like water collection & supply, & indigenous plants

Product checklist (partial):

  • locally produced
  • minimally impactful to the environment (is it from renewable sources?)
  • quality that will last a lifetime
  • whether the manufacturer accepts responsibility of the product at the end of its life

“It’s So Fabulous!”  GARDEN ENHANCING PICK of the Week:

Okay, so you spent your afternoon reading and relaxing in blissful solitude… But now it’s time to bring in the family and friends to your backyard adieu! Your honey (or you!) gets the bar-b-que fired up, and now it’s up to you to make a beautiful presentation for your soiree.

How about these fun and festive solar-powered plant pots to liven up your yard? Not only do they make interesting accents in your garden, but they can also light the way to your party without using any extra power!

And right now, they are on sale for 25% off at Firebox.com. solar-powered-plant-pot

“It’s So Fabulous!” GREEN TABLE SETTINGS of the Week:
And finally, it’s time to set the table…. But going green doesn’t mean that you have to give up style or beauty. Take a  look at these lovely examples!

Traditional-Home-Table-Setting

It would be easy to duplicate this table setting by using scrap wood as chargers and recycled glass cylinders as your table centerpieces. In addition, going green can also be as simple as using "real" plates and silverware, rather than disposable! Photo from Traditional Home.

I found the following table setting at Remodelista. It is completely eco-friendly and incredibly easy to re-create.
