Show Me Your “GREEN”…. (Part 5)

For the 5th and final day of this week’s series, “Show Me Your GREEN…”,  I am actually going to share a few tips for “STRETCHING your GREEN”! In these tough economic times, so many of us have to come up with creative ways to make every dollar count. As such, our beautiful, “frivolous” surroundings are often the first on the list to get kicked to the curb of priorities. However, I would argue a case that our homes are where we spend a large majority of our time, and therefore, it is more important than ever to be able to relax and enjoy ourselves in the spaces we create for ourselves. With such unsettling issues bombarding us from all angles, finding serenity and joy in the simple pleasures of interior design is one of those “extras” worth its weight in gold… or “green”, in this case!

So, having said that, what are some ways that we can economize, yet still be able to update a space with new design elements?  Listed below are a couple of starter ideas for achieving “the most bang for your designing buck”…

  • “SHAKE IT UP” by “MOVING IT AROUND”!  Rather than coming out of the gate thinking about buying all new furniture and accessories to redecorate, consider what you already own. For instance, you may want to invest a couple of hours with a designer who is willing to visit your home and evaluate what’s already there.  A knowledgeable expert should be able to reposition your existing furniture to provide a beautiful, new perspective.  In combination with a few fresh accessories, an altered furniture placement is often all that is needed to update the look of a room.  My own design clients are often surprised and entertained to find that I have dug through their closets and under their beds looking for “hidden treasures”. I almost always end up using at least one accessory in every design that my client already owned but forgot they even had! Of course, if you are in the Myrtle Beach area, I also highly recommend that you stop by Knotting Hill Interiors to see our fabulous (and GRAND!) selection of accessories for your inspiration.

In my own home, I constantly find myself shifting accessories from one piece of furniture to another to keep my interiors interesting and unpredictable.

  • “PAINT THE TOWN”!  As I mentioned in another blog this week, using a “new neutral” on the walls is a fantastic way to modernize the look of a space! If you do nothing else but select an up-to-date paint color, the transformation will likely be a significant one that won’t break the bank. If you happen to enjoy the look of striped wallpaper, but it’s not really in the budget, you can achieve the same dramatic look with paint! In fact, using paint has the added benefit of being able to choose the exact color of stripes you desire, rather than being limited by wallpaper selections.

Spend it, save it, spread it, paint it, stretch it, live it, or show it…. The choice is yours! “GREEN”…. Fabulous in a million different ways!
