Just a Dash of (Part 1)… Animal Prints!

When many people think of using animal prints in decor, they imagine hunting lodges or modern rooms with wild interiors  (like the one shown below)! Photos from Elle Decor, except where noted.

In reality, animal prints can be added to almost any style of room to give it a touch of interest or personality. Animal prints can even serve as a neutral when combined with a solid color! In fact, there are many accent pieces today that can be worked into an interior design.

Here is an example of an interesting animal print table.

It is also a fabulous accent to add an animal print in the form of a rug.

This rug is a subtle antelope print. As you can see, it works well as a neutral.

This room, created by Jonathan Adler, adds a touch of the wild with a zebra rug. Photo from House Beautiful.

Here is another zebra rug used in a completely different decor style.

This dining room has a contemporary feel with its modern zebra rug and contrasting colors. However, the chairs still have a traditional style.

These stairs have a lovely animal print pattern that provides movement and interest, while still acting as a neutral.

This indoor pool is embellished with an animal print sitting area, complete with rug.

Two other ways to add animal print accents is to insert them onto the furniture upholstery or throw pillows of a space.

This unique room features animal print on pillows, as well as the two cozy chairs by the fireplace. Photo by Architectural Digest.

The vintage benches in this Chicago apartment were reupholstered in animal print to give it some extra "pop"!

These chairs add drama to this somewhat traditional space.

These throw pillows are subtle, but beautiful, in combination with the relaxing colors of this space.

The contrast of this stool and zebra print pillow stand out on the primarily white background.

Donatella Versace has no problem adding bold accents of animal print into the decor of her Milan apartment.

This contemporary space is made complete with zebra upholstered chairs.

As  you can see, animal prints are much more versatile than most may imagine. In fact, they are often the perfect way to add that “special something” to any type of decor…. from luxury interior design to cottage chic!
