FOR MY VALENTINE: Top 5 FABULOUS Gift-Giving Tips
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it is time to start thinking about the perfect gift for your sweetie! Simplify the process and make your gift REALLY stand out by keeping these few simple ideas in mind…..
Entice the recipient by delighting them with the wrapping of the gift. Purchase a glitzy paper or box that represents “detail”. This shows the recipient that you really care even before the gift is opened. Also, select a lovely ribbon. This could be ribbon that compliments the wrap itself or perhaps, it is a monogrammed ribbon. Then, finalize the gift with a card that compliments the wrap. I prefer a blank card that is made to relate to the wrap, and then I write a personalized message. This assures the recipient that I really care.
2. MAKE IT MEANINGFUL
Notice small and endearing qualites about the recipient. Tailor your gift around those special traits.
- For example, a person who loves to read may receive from me a lovely pair of reader glasses, rather than a book. A book is certainly a wonderful present, but a fabulous pair of readers is much more creative! The glasses also demonstrate that a greater consideration was given when selecting their gift.
A monogram or an engraving shows you care. Many items can be considered for monogramming or engraving. For a gift of any occasion, “his and hers” pillowcases are always a wonderful choice. Stop by my retail shop, Knotting Hill Interiors, to select your favorite linens and the perfect monogram to compliment them.
4. KEEP A GIFT JOURNAL
Start a gift journal either in book form or on your Ipad or cellular device. Jot down interesting things about the recipients on your list, and then, shop throughout the year. Keep a constant list, and when you see something that reminds you of a person, go ahead and purchase it. This way your gifts are more meaningful, and you won’t be tempted to just buy something to get it out of the way.
Gift giving has been proven to promote a connection with family and friends. Ellen J. Langer, a Harvard pshychology professor says, “If I don’t let you give me a gift, then I am not encouraging you to think about me and think about the things that I like. That doesn’t do service to the relationship”. So, enjoy the process and the benefit of connecting with others!
NOW, GO HAVE AN “It’s So Fabulous!” DAY!
