Fabulously Southern – Stunning Southern Kitchens!
As we say in the South, the Kitchen is the heart of the home. Many a meal is not only shared here, but if the kitchen table could talk, the stories would be unlimited!
Floorplans in many southern homes include back doors that filter right into the kitchen…where a neighbor can easily slip right in the back door. The kitchen invites a free and open casualness…the heart of the Southerner.
As a southerner, we are taught from an early age to share our hospitality. This is easily done in this one warm and welcoming room. It is in our spirit to be giving and one of the ways we do so is with the expression of food.
Southern kitchens have evolved over time. For some, the back door is gone and rerouted with a back entry that includes cubbies for the southern family. Updated tiles, granites and other materials coupled with state of the art appliances now present a more modern approach to these rooms. The fact remains, however, that the Southern kitchen is still a place that invites comfort, conversation and good times.
Same kitchen from another angle. The island in the middle makes for lots of helping hands with dinner! And, girlfriends gathering with glasses of wine, too!
I always fall back in love with the brightness of this kitchen remodel! A window above the sink (if it is possible with the layout of your home) is a must! Mom (or Dad!) can keep an eye on the kids playing and also keep an eye out for neighbors dropping by!
Another design I did for a client that I love – the “mosaic” above the range creates a very custom and unique feel and because it is in such a small space, does not put too much strain on the budget (especially if you cannot live without marble or granite counter tops!)
The above photos were my own designs and you know I was scouring Pinterest during the wee hours of the morning to find more inspiration for this fabulous room.
I love the green door in this kitchen, as well as the rustic look with the beams on the ceiling. The mosaic over the range adds a stunning custom feel to the space as well (and this is something I have created for many clients (see image above!) – a great “small” space that gets a lot of attention to do something unique!)
I just love a bright kitchen with lots of natural light! Look at that salvaged sink! And, I am in LOVE with this rug! If I had to guess, the designer who chose this rug for this space chose an indoor/outdoor rug to withstand this obviously heavy traffic area.
When I was getting ready to write this post, I thought to myself, “I have been showing my kitchen so much so I will look for other images to share instead..” In the end, I couldn’t help myself in showcasing this crucial element to a southern kitchen… A large table for friends and family to casually gather! I have a more formal dining room in my home, but if space allows, I always encourage my clients to have a laid back, comfortable place for seating. I am in love with this table and like I said before -“If these walls could talk…” I have so many wonderful memories right here with my family.
