Color of the Year for 2011: PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle

honeysuckleEach year Pantone, the well-respected color authority worldwide, brings us a color that will dominate in the home and fashion trends for the year.  For 2011, a bold, pinkish-red color called “Honeysuckle” is the honoree of this designation. If you thought of a golden color, rather than bright pink when imagining Honeysuckle, you aren’t alone. There are many different varieties of this tiny flower, the most common of which in our area are the ones that grow fragrantly wild in shades of lovely yellow.

According to Pantone, “Honeysuckle emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.” WOW! That sure seems like a tall order for a single color, doesn’t it?! Well, maybe just a little bit. However,  if you are allured by the energy of vibrant colors (like I am!), you can understand how adding a splash of Honeysuckle to your home interiors (or wardrobe!) may provide a welcomed zing of excitement!

Because of its intensity, Honeysuckle is one of those colors that will likely polarize most people into loving or hating it.

If you are interested in trying this fun color in your decor, but you aren’t quite brave enough to commit to changing the entire room, why not try adding some small accessories, such as throw pillows, a vase, or  some flowers?  Bold colors, such as Honeysuckle, work well with most neutrals, including hues of gray, brown, cream, black, white, even navy and green!  So, why not give it a shot?! HAVE FUN WITH IT!
